Keep going with it mate, would love to see the progression it makes. And for a beginer artist its a great tool, it really helps your artistic eye and once you get good you can whip things like that off the top of your head. I used to feel like it was traceing, or something to be avoided, but not so. Production companies and game houses spend ALOT of cash on concept art and 3D maquetes (sculptures) for their 3D artists to “base” their work off, and they use everything from scanning to rotoscoping. But rotoscoping is a good, and widley used technique for getting the design down. I use rotoscoping for things like human faces, but not always (sonic wasnt). This will help you achive an accurate shape in your design. But the foot design is a bit off from the battle droid from the movie.īut if you are making the ones from the movie, there are heaps of reference pics on the net, and i would suggest rotoscoping your mesh to them.

I would suggest beveling your edges on the foot tho, this would help it have a more real look, even if its just a slight beveling.ĭo you have reference pics you are working from, or are you making your own style battle droid? If ts your own type of bot, that’s cool. Looks like a nice gold shine going on there, the shader looks good.
